Birchbox October Box Review

Monday, November 03, 2014

OK, so I know I've been a naughty blogger recently but sometimes life just gets...in the way, doesn't it? The last couple of months have been a mix of ups and downs and time seems to have constantly run away from me. But I am starting November with better organisation and high hopes. Let's begin with a post that should have gone up in October: Birchbox's monthly beauty box review.

October saw Birchbox team up with 'CoppaFeel' for breast cancer awareness month and provided my favourite box yet! The contents and cards are trés cute and the "work it!" slogan made me feel completely motivated, which I'm hoping will continue in to November!
The box arrived and looked like it always does, except for the 'CoppaFeel' ribbon on the top corner. Removing the lid revealed a pink pencil-case and the usual two info cards. October's had a little 14-day check list to "work it!" and helpful info on how to check your own breasts for any oddities, which should then lead to a check up.

I unzipped the bag to find it full of products and I adore them!

I first pulled out KMS California's Hair Play. It does what it says on the tin: preps, styles and sets my hair. It can be used on wet or dry hair so is multi-functioning! The one thing to note, is that I think it'd work better on thick hair as it sometimes made my fine hair feel a bit heavy and flat, though that could be just dependent on how much product I'm using. Any ideas?

Next, I received Balance Me's Cleanse and Smooth Face Balm, which I had already got in a previous box.  After using this stuff, my skin feels fresher, softer, more hydrated - in the good way, not the oily way - and it helps to keep any shine at bay. It is a lush product and one I've decided to definitely purchase when it runs out as I'd forgotten how much I liked it!

I then found a nail polish from Lollipops Voyage à Paris. It doesn't appear to have a shade name but it's a stunning bright red that I'm very much looking forward to testing out. As always, keep an eye out for future 'Nails of the Week' posts!

I'd been wanting to try Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in 'Honey Nectar' for a long time so this was a welcome addition! This balm is wonderful on the lips and adds a subtle wash of nude colour, dare I even say "my lips but better". It's moisturising and provides a deep conditioning for my current dry chaps. The one disappointment was the packaging, it felt flimsy (like it wouldn't last very long as the bottom of a handbag). That aside, this is a great lip balm!

One item I wish I'd known about sooner is The Cool Fix from Shaveworks. This cooling gel is incredible. I applied a small amount to my bikini line after shaving to reduce some of the red bumps and it helped massively. It also smells fresh and feels so nice on the skin, a must-have for at home hair removal!

The lifestyle extra, besides the little bag, was an adorable lipstick pen. It's fab and will be taking proud place on my desk at work for sure!

I know I tend to say this every month but I loved this month's box and even more so seeing as it was all in aid of an insanely worth-while cause.
