Weekday Makeup Routine

Saturday, November 08, 2014

I am a lover of sleep and not so much of having to get up early most days, so it'll be no surprise when I say I try to spend as long as is physically possible in the comfy confines of my bed. Why do beds always have to feel so nice in the morning, it's almost impossible to drag myself from it - I can't be the only one?! Anyway, this does mean that I have to have a pretty quick morning routine in order to shower, dress, do my hair and makeup, before heading out to work. Say hello to my everday morning makeup routine; enjoy.

Base
Primer. I start off with Rimmel London's Stay Matte Primer. Like I have said many times, I have very oily skin, thus meaning that my face becomes mega shiny throughout the day - not an appealing look! This primer, unlike many others I have tried, helps keep some of the said oil at bay. It is matte to apply but also leaves my face feeling nice and soft. Win, win.
Foundation. I then move on to my foundation which I apply using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush (the perfect blending brush). After a bit of enabling from the usual ladies, Anna and Lily, I decided to purchase the L'oréal True Match Foundation in 'Rose Beige'. This isn't my exact match but it's not far out and gives the medium coverage I want for everyday use. At first, I found it a bit runny, but the more I have used it the more I have come to realise that I only need a small pump to cover my entire face (and then some!).
Concealer. Finally, I use Maybelline's Fit Me Concealer in shade 20 for my under eye baggies and to cover any blemishes, which I use my ring finger to apply and blend in. This is the perfect match for me and the coverage is very good for under the eyes, however, it does wear off throughout the day so a bit of reapplication occurs. I'm looking to get the NARS Creamy Concealer at some point in the near future, but I'll be sure to let you know when I do.

Cheeks and Powders
Contouring. For this step, I use Rimmel's Natural Bronzer in shade 025 Sun Bronze. This is such a lovely, drugstore bronzer which I apply using my Real Techniques Contour Brush. The brush is perfect for contouring as it holds the right amount of product and isn't too big that it makes it look unnatural. Still being a contour-novice, I only apply the powder just below the cheek bones and up to my temples to give my face some definition and I have found that little at a time with a lot of blending is the best way to apply and ensures everything looks natural.
Blusher. I use the Lasting Finish Soft Colour Blush from Rimmel in the shade 'Pink Rose'. It's the perfect colour for me; a subtle, warm pink that adds a natural pop of colour to the cheeks. I apply the blush to the apples of my cheeks using Barbara Daly's Blush Brush to create a healthy looking glow.

Eyes
Eyeshadow. Eyeshadow is where I like to experiment most but for the week, I try to keep it simple with a nice nude. I use NYX's Nude Matte Shadow in shade 04 'Maybe Later' which I apply with Real Techniques' Base Shadow Brush. It's got good pigmentation and lasts most of the day, plus it's nothing too fancy for work.
Mascara. I tend to change my mascara quite a bit too, depending on what the day is due to bring. For work, I use L'oréal's Volume Million Lashes. It's great at giving enough definition, volume and length to my lashes.
Eyebrows. I'll be honest, most days I'll skip this stage to save some time and because I really can't be bothered to faff around trying to get them right. I tend to just give them a quick brush through and be done.

Lips

Last but not least, the lips. Lip colour is the only thing that changes daily depending on what outfit I wear or what I'm feeling that day. The two I have been reaching for most of late though are Mac's Lipstick in 'Patisserie' and Maybelline's Colorsensational Shine Gloss in 105 'Cashmere Rose'. Both are beautiful and can be paired with most outfits.

There you have it; tools and makeup down, job done. It may seem like a long process when reading but I've got it down to a T now and it's takes me about 5 minutes to apply - not bad going, eh? I'll do an evening makeup routine post at some point as I use a few different products and it'd be good to show comparison. But for now, this set up does me well for my working week days.
