The "Up-Do"

Friday, February 20, 2015

Of late, I have been finding myself with my hair tied up more often than not. Now this may not sound like anything odd, but from the ages of around 10 to 22 I avoided tying my hair up like the plague.

This was massively to do with self confidence issues and I always felt that it made me look like a guy - never a good thing when you're a teen! At the age of around 14/15 (during my 'emo/goth' phase), I even had my long locks all chopped off and had it black and spikey (sorry but I'm not going to include a photo for you to laugh at see). I digress… The point I'm making is that I never wore my hair up unless I had to. Until now!

As I mentioned in the Colab Dry Shampoo review, I have been trying to get my hair from looking thin and scraggly to looking as it once was, thick and healthy. Too much heat and too many colour changes have turned my hair in to something that I am never happy with and it had to change. In trying to do this, I have been avoiding drying/straightening my hair and trying to wash it every other day. This means that, for the time being, I am trying to hide it more by wearing it up.

And that's not a bad thing.

I've actually started to enjoy wearing my hair back or finding different styles to do. Pinterest = my saviour! And when I do wear my hair down, I'm starting to notice a change. It's starting to look better, healthier and growing longer. It's a win win situation!

I guess what I'm trying to say with this post is that for those who are scared to wear their hair up for whatever reason: don't worry!

1.) You are not alone in how you feel and 2.) It's not half as bad as you think it is! Start wearing it up at home (my locks tend to go straight up in to a bun or ponytail as soon as I'm through the door anyway) to build some confidence, try out styles and get used to seeing your hair up. Once your confidence has grown a little, start wearing it out to the shops or what not. Over time, the more you wear it up and out, the more confident you feel and the more you'll come to realise that actually, it looks good.

Are you scared to wear your hair up or are you an up-do fiend?

  1. I have ears that ever-so-slightly stick out and for this reason I am very conscious of wearing my hair up. When I was in secondary school I didn't wear it up, at all. Except when we have to for gym but even then I would take it down if I thought I could get away with it. As I've got older I have come to realise that actually my ears aren't that bad so I regularly wear my hair up and shock horror, nobody looks at me funny or says anything. The condition of my hair has improved immensly! x

  2. I always wear my hair up. I just find it way easier, and my hair looks way better up than down, but I really want to be able to let it down and wear it down everyday :)
