In case you haven't read some of my previous film reviews, something you should know about me is that I am a bit of a horror film fanatic. 

Whenever the opportunity arises to go see one in the cinema, I'm there, ready and waiting to be scared out of my wits. Sometimes this happens but it is more than often not the case and I leave the cinema wondering why I wasted my money (case and point: 'Annabelle').

But when I saw that 'The Woman in Black 2: Angel of Death' was coming out, I had high hopes. I thoroughly enjoyed the first film with it's terrifying moments and great plot line. Plus Daniel Radcliffe is such a babe and it was great to see him act in something completely different to 'Harry Potter'. You get the picture, I really liked the first film. But horror sequels are usually either rather good or astronomically bad. Luckily, I would say that this flick falls under the first category as it really was rather good.

The film is set during the 1940's WWII London bombings and follows one group of evacuees as they move out to the house seen in the first film. Without giving too much away, scary occurrences start to happen, there are some deaths and a large amount of jumpy moments before you reach the chilling end. The plot wasn't too bad and it was great that it differed from the first film somewhat; I also liked that there were a few more underlining stories intertwined to bulk it up a bit. It is sad, creepy, gripping and intense all rolled in to one, with that cliffhanger ending that we all want.

Like I said before, there were a lot of moments where I think I may have jumped out of my seat - along with the rest of the cinema, I might add! It certainly keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time, however, I would have liked to have seen more of those creepy moments instead of the constant 'in-your-face' scares. You know, seeing something move out of the corner of your eye more, seeing her silhouette more often...things like that. The makers of the film seemed to focus on making the viewer jump, instead of giving them the chills like in the first one. Not that it was necessarily a bad thing, it's simply down to personal preference that I would have liked to have been freaked out a bit more, alongside doing the jumping.

Another negative point, which wasn't really the film's fault but more the cinema I went to, was that the lights were left on too bright. I understand that for safety reasons, a few lights have to be left on low during but as the film was dark, it was hard to see all that was going on because the dim orange light was reflecting off the screen. Like I said, not the film's fault but still an annoyance, which was a shame.

Despite that, I'd say it was a good film and definitely worth watching, especially if you liked the first one. Although, I'm still waiting to find the next film that creeps me out so much that it lasts with me for weeks - the last one to do this was 'Mama' and if you haven't seen it but like horror films, definitely watch it! I've put the trailer for this sequel just below; though be warned, it may spoil some of the jumpy bits!
