Lip Loves of 2014

Friday, January 09, 2015

Besides from my obsession with eye shadows, palettes in particular, I have another obsession that I care to share with you today: lip products.

Every year, I find myself expanding my horizons, trying out new colours and filling my drawers with lipsticks, glosses, balms and pens. As my love for all things lip-related blossoms more and more, I thought I'd do a quick round up to give you my lip loves from 2014.

I'm going to jump right in with Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets. Come on, we all knew these would be first on the list. If you haven't read my full review on them, I'll give you the lowdown: stunning bold colours with a matte finish and incredibly long-lasting (and when I say long-lasting, I mean long-lasting as you're having to literally scrub the the product off at the end of the day). I've yet to try the nudes in the range as I've heard they aren't quite as good, but the brights are simply...wow. 'Ole Flamingo!' was my summer lip staple and 'Hot Pepper' was my winter one. I have even convinced some friends to try them out, they're that good.

Another 2014 release that I adored was Tanya Burr's Lip Glosses. I was late on the bandwagon in getting these - only purchasing them in October - but I'm glad I finally took the plunge. They're ace! The range has loads of colours but I only own 'Chic' and 'Afternoon Tea' so far. Both are beautiful and are on the softer shade spectrum, 'Chic' being a warm nude and 'Afternoon Tea' a peachy pink; I feel very comfortable wearing both. The pigmentation is nice and the formula leaves a glossy-but-not sticky shine on the lips. The longevity isn't bad either! Well done to Tanya for these little gems.

Rimmel Apolcalips was another lip gloss that I favoured thoughout the year after picking up 'Nude Eclipse' (a light brown nude) back in January. My collection has since extended and now includes 'Celestial' (a dusky pink), 'Nova' (a bright pink), 'Eclipse' (a deep red), 'Meteoric Matte' (a matte deep red); all of which are extremely wearable. One thing I especially like about these is the doe foot with micro-reservoir applicator, as it picks up the perfect amount and means I don't need to double-dip; this also means that they're lasting aggges! The formula is smooth, thick and highly pigmented meaning that the colour transfer is brilliant and also lasts on the lips for a good few hours before having to reapply or top up. I often pick these up as I can pair them with so many outfits and colours, I simply love them!

Back to lipsticks and my first ever Mac Lipstick just had to be mentioned. 'Patisserie' is a gorgeous nude with pink undertones, which is so easy to wear that I am surprised it even lasted the half year of owning it seeing as I wore it so often. Good pigmentation, creamy formula and reasonably long-lasting; everything you'd want out of a lipstick. I'm looking forward to seeing what colour from Mac 2015 will bring me.

Finally on the colour side of things, I'd best mention Revlon's Colorburst Balm range. I fell in love with these and ended up with three in total: 'Elusive' (a bright pink from the matte range), 'Demure' (a light peachy pink from the lacquer range) and 'Rendevous' (a deep pink from the stain range). I liked the pen form as it makes it easy to apply and makes it robust enough to withstand the knocks a handbag endures in the day, so they were already in my good books. The matte range offers up great colour coverage and long-lasting formula, the lacquer gives a lovely colour and glossy finish and the lip stains do what it says on the tin...well, on the pen. I did find that I wore them during the Spring more but I'm looking forward to the when the warmer days start appearing again so I can get them back on my lips.

Lastly, I thought I'd throw in my favourite lip care product and those who've read this blog over the past couple of months will probably already know what it is; of course, it's Nuxe Rêve De Miel Lip Balm. The little tub of lip balm heaven is awesome. I usually apply at night and it leaves my lips feeling soft and supple. Highly moisturising with the scent of lemon curd (that I kinda really like) and all made from good ingredients = happy lips and a happy Amy.
