'Devil' Review

I've always been a horror film fan. I like the feeling of being scared and rattled - whilst knowing that I'm completely safe in the comforts of my home, of course! - and I'm always on the look out for a good horror film to get caught up in.

Creepy and psychological horror is the type of genre I prefer to watch, with films such as 'The Blair Witch Project', 'Paranormal Activity', 'Insidious' etc. topping the bill. What I look for in a film is something that'll make me think and have a good shock factor, as well as, having scares that aren't so "in-your-face" but that'll still give you goosebumps. And sometimes, a true gem will be stumbled upon and it'll become one of my favourites; 'Devil' is definitely one of these gems.

The premise of 'Devil' is as follows: 5 strangers get "stuck" in a lift in a big corporation building and whilst the security team and police try to free them, it becomes apparent that one of them is not who they appear to be as strange things start to happen. The title may lead to believe that it is a religious film but don't be fooled, it is not; it's more about the consequences from the choices these people have made in their lives to that point and trying to figure out which one of the lift passengers is doing the terrible things.

In all honesty, I believe M Night Shyamalan and the director, John Erick Dowdle, have done a stand up jobThe tension is built and sustained throughout the whole film and you are left guessing who's doing it and what's going on all the way through. It really will have you sat on the edge of your seat and biting your nails! It's also not too gory; there a couple of moments but overall, it's not too bad for a weakling like me.

The best thing about the film is the epic double-twist at the end! Just when you get shocked once, boom! The next revelation becomes clear and both are incredibly clever. The movie is worth watching just for the ending. Saying that though, the acting is also top notch!

It's not a new film but it's a goodie all the same. Scary, thrilling and shocking - what more could you want from a horror flick?! If you're in the US, I think you can stream this great film on Netflix. The trailer is also below for those interested to take a look.

Have you seen 'Devil' and if so, what did you think? Do you have any good horrors or films with a twist you'd suggest?
